The count
The pone, the player who did not deal, lays the first card face up and says its value ACC r.7.1.b. Then the players take turns, each laying one card and saying the new total, the count ACC r.7.1.c. Kings, queens, jacks and tens count 10, an ace counts 1, every other card its number. The count can never pass 31. The starter is never played.
What scores in the play
| When your card | You score |
|---|---|
| brings the count to 15 | 2 |
| brings the count to 31 | 2 |
| matches the rank of the card before it, a pair | 2 |
| makes three of a kind in a row | 6 |
| makes four of a kind in a row | 12 |
| completes a run with the cards right before it | 1 a card |
| is the last card before nobody can play | 1 |
One card can score more than once: a 5 on a 5 after a 5 brings the count to 15 and makes three of a kind ACC r.7.2.a.
- 5
- +210
- +815
- 5count 10: pair 2+2
- 5count 15: fifteen 2, three of a kind 6+8
Go
When you hold no card that fits under 31, you say go. Saying go scores nothing. Your opponent must then keep laying cards while any fit ACC r.1.5.e(2). When neither of you can play, the player who laid the last card scores 1 for the go, and the count goes back to 0. The go and the last card share that one point: it is never two.
Reaching 31 scores 2 and ends the count at once, and the player who makes 31 never adds the point for the last card ACC r.1.7.
After a go or 31, the player who did not lay the last card leads the next count ACC r.7.1.b. If one player runs out of cards, the other plays on alone and scores as usual. The very last card of the play scores 1, unless it makes 31.
You must play when a card fits. In the app the table only lets you lay a card that fits, and says go for you when none does.
A worked example
Pagat’s example, played through our rules engine. A holds K K 2 2 and leads; B holds 9 8 7 6.

- 7count 15: fifteen 2+2

Pairs and runs in the play
A pair counts only with the card laid right before it, and three or four of a kind only when they come one after another. A run counts when the last cards laid hold ranks in a row, in any order, with nothing between ACC r.1.6. Each new card that stretches the run scores the whole run again:
- 4
- 6
- +39
- +414
- +520
- 3count 9: run of 3 for 3+3
- 5count 14: run of 4 for 4+4
- 6count 20: run of 5 for 5+5
A repeated rank breaks a run. Here the second 4 scores a run with the 2 and 3, and the last 3 scores nothing: the last three cards hold no run, and no pair.
- 4
- 6
- +39
- +313
- 16
- 3count 9: run of 3 for 3+3
- 4count 13: run of 3 for 3+3
A run can arrive late, all at once:
- 4
- 6
- 12
- 17
- +520
- 3count 20: run of 5 for 5+5
Nothing carries over a go or 31: cards from the old count never pair or run with cards in the new one.
