In short
  • You can play the computer, play a friend on one phone and take the lessons with no account. They send us nothing.
  • Online play makes a guest account with no email. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we keep only their account number for you.
  • The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob between games, never during a hand. Google’s ad software collects your phone’s advertising ID and similar data; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app asks you first.
  • Our own code sends us no usage statistics, and our server shares nothing with anyone. You can delete your account in the app or from this site.

We never ask for your email address, phone number, real name, address, location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, and the app has no permission to reach any of them. Google’s ad software, described under Ads and purchases below, estimates a general location from your IP address.

On your phone

Your settings, your games and wins against the computer, a game you paused, your lesson progress and the name you chose stay on your phone. Playing the computer, pass and play and the lessons need no account and send us nothing.

Your account

The first time you tap Play online, or open an online table with a friend, the app makes a guest account. There is no signup form. The account holds:

  • a random account id, which says nothing about you;
  • a fingerprint (a hash) of the secret key kept on your phone, so our server knows your phone again. We never keep the key itself;
  • the name you chose;
  • your rating and your record: games, wins, losses and skunks;
  • how many games and wins against the computer your phones have, with a random id for each phone, so your profile can add them up;
  • the players you blocked;
  • when the account was made and when it was last used.

You can sign in with Google, or with Apple on an iPhone, so your account follows you to another phone. Google or Apple then sends our server a token. We check it and keep only the account number inside it (Google’s or Apple’s own random id for you) and the name of the phone’s system, Android or iOS. We do not keep your email address, your name or your photo, and we never post anything for you.

Online games

For every online game we keep the moves, the deal seal and its seeds, the result, the score, each player’s name and rating, and the change in rating. That record lets your phone check every deal after the game, keeps ratings honest, and fills the Recent games list on your profile. We keep finished games while the game runs, because they are part of your opponents’ records too.

Your opponent sees your name and rating at the table. The leaderboard is public: once you have played 5 rated games, your name, rating, games and wins can appear in its top 50. If you would rather not be recognized, choose a name that says nothing about you.

Table chat

We keep the messages you send at an online table for 30 days, then delete them. If someone reports a message or a player, we keep that table’s chat until we have reviewed the report. A report holds who made it, who it is about, the reason and the message. We use chat for nothing but reviewing reports. The app refuses links, numbers and handles, and masks rude words.

Your IP address

Our server sees your IP address when your phone connects. We use it to stop floods, such as hundreds of new accounts from one network in a day. We do not store it with your account. When an address goes over one of those limits, the server’s log notes the address and the limit, at most once a day.

Game statistics

The server notes when an online game starts and ends: the kind of table, a player’s rating, the result, the scores and the number of deals. We use these notes to count games and to improve the game. Each note carries the account id of a player at the table, and we keep them for a year.

Our own code sends us no usage statistics and no crash reports. The only other software in the app that sends data anywhere is Google’s ad software, described next.

Ads and purchases

Cribbage Street is free, and it shows ads from Google AdMob. An ad shows only between games, when you leave the result of a finished game. Ads never show during a hand, in a lesson or in the first hand.

To show ads, the app uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK, Google’s ad software. It collects the following and shares it with Google:

  • your phone’s advertising ID and app set ID;
  • your IP address, which Google uses to estimate your general location;
  • how you use the app, such as when it opens and which ads you see and tap;
  • diagnostics, such as crash logs and how the ad software performs.

Google uses this for advertising, for analytics and to prevent fraud. It is sent encrypted. Google explains how it uses information from apps that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Your choices. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks you first, with Google’s consent form, before it shows ads. You can refuse personalized ads, and the game works exactly the same. On an iPhone, Apple’s prompt then asks whether the app may track you, and you can say no. You can change your choice at any time in Settings, then Ad privacy. Where a US state privacy law lets you opt out of ads based on your data, you make that choice in the same place. On Android, open the phone’s Settings, then Privacy (or Google), then Ads, to reset or delete your advertising ID. On an iPhone, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking, to stop the app, or every app, from tracking you. Google’s own ad settings are at myadcenter.google.com.

Cribbage Street sells nothing. There are no in-app purchases.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell or rent your data, and our server shares nothing with anyone. The app itself sends Google the data listed under Ads and purchases, for advertising, under Google’s own privacy policy; some US state laws call that sharing, and you can opt out as described there. Our server runs on a machine we rent and run ourselves. We copy its database every hour and every day and keep those copies for a few days, so a broken disk cannot lose your games. Google and Apple run their own sign-in screens under their own privacy policies.

This website

cribbagestreet.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ads. The hand counter and the discard calculator run in your browser: the cards you choose never leave it. Cloudflare serves the site and, like any web host, sees your IP address to send you the pages.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account until you delete it. In the app, on Home, tap You at the bottom left, then Delete account at the bottom of your profile, and tap again. Without the app, see Delete your account, which also lists what stays. You cannot undo a deletion.

Deleting your account does not delete what Google’s ad software collected: Google holds that, not us, and it is not tied to your account. Use Google’s controls under Ads and purchases above.

Age

Cribbage Street is not directed at anyone under 18.

Changes

When we change this policy we change the date at the top, and we say so in the app if the change matters.
